Nicaragua’s Ortega calls execution of Saddam Hussein a ‘brutal crime’.

Posted by QB on January 1, 2007

MANAGUA, Nicaragua: Nicaraguan President-elect Daniel Ortega called the execution of Saddam Hussein a brutal crime and abuse of the sovereignty of the Iraqi people.

In a communique sent to The Associated Press on Saturday, the Sandinista leader said with Saddam’s execution, international law has “been violated once more in Iraq along with the occupation, bombardment and subjection to the maximum humiliations, tortures, abuses and a cruel genocide.”

Ortega, who takes office on Jan. 10, said the execution “in spite of the requests for mercy by international humanitarian, legal and religious bodies — including representatives of the Vatican — demonstrates once more the rule of cruelty and hate.”

Saddam was executed early Saturday after a court sentenced him to death for his role in the killings of 148 Shiite Muslims. He was captured by U.S. forces on Dec. 13, 2003.

I did not see any statement coming from Hugo Chavez, Cuba, Ecuador, Bolivia, Brazil and Argentina on Saddam Hussein execution. Ortega issued a fearless true statement on Saddam Hussein execution.
