Old Testament Stoning to Death Punishments.

Posted by QB on May 11, 2007

There are lots of searches for stoning to death punishment in Old Testament. Posting this for people information and knowledge. Stoning to death was very popular punishment for all crimes.

Deuteronomy. Preceding number represents Chapter.

12.10 And thou shalt stone him with stones, that he die, because he hath sought to thrust thee away from the LORD thy God, who brought thee out of the land of Egypt, from the house of bondage.
17.2 If there be found among you, within any of thy gates which the LORD thy God giveth thee, man or woman who hath wrought wickedness in the sight of the LORD thy God in transgressing His covenant,
17.3 and hath gone and served other gods and worshiped them, either the sun or moon or any of the host of heaven, which I have not commanded,
17.4 and it be told thee, and thou hast heard of it and inquired diligently, and behold, it be true and the thing certain that such abomination is wrought in Israel,
17.5 then shalt thou bring forth that man or that woman who has committed that wicked thing unto thy gates, even that man or that woman, and shalt stone them with stones till they die.
17.6 At the mouth of two witnesses or three witnesses shall he that is worthy of death be put to death, but at the mouth of one witness he shall not be put to death.

Stonning to death punishment for disobidient sons.
21.21 And all the men of his city shall stone him with stones, so that he die. So shalt thou put evil away from among you, and all Israel shall hear and fear.

Stonning to death punishment for non virgin women.

22.20 But if this thing be true, and the tokens of virginity be not found for the damsel, (unmarried women)
22.21 then they shall bring out the damsel to the door of her father’s house, and the men of her city shall stone her with stones that she die, because she hath wrought folly in Israel, to play the whore in her father’s house; so shalt thou put evil away from among you.

Death punishment for adultery.

22.22 “If a man be found lying with a woman married to a husband, then they shall both of them die, both the man that lay with the woman and the woman; so shalt thou put away evil from Israel.

Stoning to death punishment for virgin women for adultery.
22.23 If a damsel who is a virgin be betrothed unto a husband, and a man find her in the city and lie with her,
22.24 then ye shall bring them both out unto the gate of that city, and ye shall stone them with stones, that they die — the damsel, because she cried not, being in the city, and the man, because he hath humbled his neighbor’s wife; so thou shalt put away evil from among you.

There are plenty more verses which prescribe death punishment, cutting hands of women, plugging eye.

I published these for Sunni Muslims and Shia Muslims who are so ignorant that they are still killing men and women using these laws. Jews must have find better interpretation of these punishment because they don’t have stoning to death punishment. Sunni Muslims must open their minds all around the world specially the religious scholars who try to justify these punishment with their unintelligent illogical arguments. Shame on all those who support this cruel punishment.

The punishment of adultery is “Stoning to death” in Qatar as well as in all the other Muslim countries of the world.

  3. Huda said

All the other Muslim countries of the world? Very few muslim countries have this law and most don’t even implement it.

Take Pakistan for example. Stoning to death was made part of the law in 1980 by President General Zia, bypassing the National Assembly. Most Pakistanis consider it a political move by a military dictator. The law is so poorly defined that not a single person has ever been given this punishment in Pakistan.

Unlike the Old Testament, this punishment is not given to disobidient sons or fornicators under Shariah laws. There is no punishment for disobidient sons at all in the law and fornicators get a different punishment. The defined, but never given, punishment for adultry under Pakistani law is stoning to death.

What good is a law if we don’t implement it? And it cannot be implemented unless it is improved by a two third majority in the National Assembly. Lets see what happens after 2008 elections in Pakistan. I am guessing that the new governemnt will be formed by an uncomfortable coalition of conservative Muslim League (N) and very liberal People’s Party (B). Meaning no change in Islamic Shariah Laws in the near future.

If you haven’t figured it out so far, I am in favor of capital punishments. Zero tolerance for murder, rape, adultry and high treason.

so you are saying that you know better than god ?
people were given clear instructions not to do such things and if they do they will get punished and in that case they got what they deserve in life and god will forgive them for that sin.
and why do you think that the muslim society have the least amount of crimes ?
BECAUSE THEY HAVE LAWS THAT THEY FOLLOW!
at least they’re realistic not like christrains who believe that jesus died for our sins.
if its true that jesus died for our sins then why don’t they wish death or just commit suicide ? and go straight to heaven since heaven is way much better than life ?? have you ever thought of that ?
and guess what, once you change anything in any holly book that means you don’t believe in it
people allowing gay marriage in some countries is an example

but all i can say is that people nowadays are looking for whats easy to do not whats better to do
so thats why they dont apply what god told them to do

so who is the ignorant now ?

No, Jesus died as a sacrifice (blood atonement) because God is a fair and just God that cannot stand the sight of sinners like us. This sacrifice of his own son was an acceptable sacrifice in comparison to animal blood and our past were considered history and everyone Jew and Gentile could share a relationship with God the father and the son without being in a “holy place” or “holy priest”, much which were hypocrites in God’s eyes.

Jesus wants all followers to take up the cross and follow him EVERY day of their life, spreading the gospel and being an example of a Christian and saved by Jesus at cavalry. This command from the father himself and told through Jesus means that wishing death or committing suicide means you have surrendered to Lucifer and his demons and could not see God’s grace and mercy.

We are very realistic, the events of crucifixion and its details were prophesies thousands of years before it happening as a sign that Jesus was coming ( Isaiah ).

Historians have not being able to dispute the fact these manuscripts are older than the crucifixion and could not be folged. The exact details in which happened could not have been acted as Romans soldiers mentioned were pagan believers and fulfilled many of the details in the prophecy like stabbing Jesus side and blood and water came out.(buildup of fluid near the sack of the heart during crucifix).

I pray that you read this carefully and do your own research and decide on your own instead of instantly labeling me as a an infedel. God bless you

and if a wife cheats on her husband she deserves to be punished ?
    isn’t that fair ?
if you steal you have to get punished
    isn’t that fair ?
    and so on
SO IN OTHER WORDS DON’T DO BAD THINGS YOU WON’T GET PUNISHED

the question is what are we not supposed to do ?
if there shall not be any punishments lets go ahead and kill each other and cheat on each other and encourage gay marriage and make sure we do everything wrong if there is no law to stop these things.
how would you feel when you see your own wife with somebody else ?????????
how would you feel when you see your own husband with somebody else ???????
how would you feel if somebody kills your child ????
how would you feel if somebody steals your belongings ?????
how would you feel if your son is married to another man or your daughter married to another woman ??? animals don’t even do that !!!!
how would you feel if your daughter goes around and sleeps with every single guy she meets without marriage ???
if you don’t like that to happen to you then you shouldn’t like that to happen to anyone

    NOW IS THAT FAIR ????

This punishment is carried out in public is not to physically harm man or woman. It is also commanded not to hit them too hard.

this is why i don’t support this religion nor most religions. perhaps there is a God but it is the people, with all of their innate flaws, who have translated these texts many many times and each time the writer has changed the meaning so you all don’t know what the texts originally said. so you may think that Allah wants you to do these things but you cannot be certain as Allah didn’t write the current version that you are reading.

plus what makes the person throwing the stone (who is actually a murderer) any holier than the person being stoned (the adulterer)? HOW IS IT THAT A MURDERER IS HOLIER THAN AN ADULTERER? makes no sense at all. Islam actually promotes violence and murder in it’s holy texts. It is contradictory in it’s “morality” if you can call it that.

Religion is for people who need to feel like they belong or have a purpose in life. You only have one life to live and religious people spend their whole lives thinking of the supposed next life. Why not look at your inner goodness and spend your days on this Earth doing good things not because you’re going to get rewarded by going to some heaven that people create in their hopeful minds but instead do good just because you can.

Stoning to death happened long long ago and it makes me sick to think of humans still doing this terrible action to one another.

“if its true that jesus died for our sins then why don’t they wish death or just commit suicide ? and go straight to heaven since heaven is way much better than life ?? have you ever thought of that ?”

Well, commiting suicide is a sin, so doing so would send you to hell, no matter how good a life you lived. Did you ever think of that? Or are you just some retard who likes to run his mouth?

“how would you feel if your son is married to another man or your daughter married to another woman ??? animals don’t even do that !!!!”

Yes, animals do that. Not all, but there are many species that practice homosexuality as a form of pleasure, but those same animals will find a mate when it is time to reproduce. You are clearly ignorant and need to shut your mouth.

“SO IN OTHER WORDS DON’T DO BAD THINGS YOU WON’T GET PUNISHED
    and thats fair!!!!”

Indeed that is fair, but being stoned to death for adultery is not fair. The only person you need to answer to is your spouse, not the government or city.

“so who is the ignorant now ?”

You. You are the ignorant now.

Stoning women for adultery is a part of Islam because it is based on the example set by Muhammad, who ordered it done on many occasions. See:

    Bukhari (6:60:79)
    Muslim (17:4196)
    Muslim (17:4206)
    Muslim (17:4209)

Muhammad also said that it was one of three crimes for which a person should be killed:

    Bukhari (83:37)

One of you mentioned that stoning was done when Jesus was alive. Did you know that a woman was brought before him, guilty of adultery, and Jesus said that yes, she should be stoned, but only someone who has never himself done wrong could throw a stone. Soon, every one left except the woman, and Jesus told her she was forgiven, and to go and sin no more. My husband had an affair, and divorced me. I was angry enough that I wanted to hurt him. Now, 28 years later, I have gotten over my anger, have a wonderful life, and he has been marrying and divorcing and cheating all this time. God will punish him, I don’t have to worry about that. But to have him stoned, not necessary. God is so much more powerful and just, He will take care of the bad people in this world. It seems that if we’re angry, then someone needs to die. Have you noticed that it’s not working, that this world is way too bloody, and many many innocent people are suffering. All we are saying, is give peace a chance. If someone wrongs you, don’t let the door hit them in the behind. and get on with your life, period.

QB, the Muslim faith does not deny the OT. In fact, Islam requires the OT much like Christianity does- difference being that we Christians have the new covenant- Islam does not. Thus why Muslim law is based upon OT teachings. Just as Judaism is the basis for Christianity, so it is for the Muslims. At any rate, Sharia law is followed in a very sexist, depraved style with little legal process in the most extreme countries- and followed very moderately without much forced dogma in the more mild ones, (Turkey, for example.)

    • QB said

OT is replaced by Qur’an. Either follow OT or follow Qur’an.

Anonymous said – “Christians have the new covenant- Islam does not”

Patently false. If one is to belive what the Bible says, Christ died for the sins of ALL. The “new covenant” wasn’t with the “Christians”. Rather one becomes a Christian under the new covenant by accepting the sacrifice that Christ made.

Jesus said “I am the way, the truth & the life. NO ONE comes to the Father BUT BY ME”.

By who? Mary? No. By Muhhamed? No.

      Only by Christ Himself.

The new covenant was with the world.

Any who still practice stoning are nothing more than common murderers . . .

  31. Anonymous said

Oh, anonymouse, it’s in John. (:

And I would love to see the verse that says suicide sends you to a place of eternal torment.

Without the circular reasoning that we somehow must ask for forgiveness of each sin we’ve commited rather than allow baptism to make us pure.

SamieK, Paul writes that if you are married to someone and become a Christian, you are not to leave your non-Christian spouse. But if your non-Christian spouse wishes to leave you, do not fight it.

I don’t know how well that applies, though, seeing as they aren’t married. Since she is only engaged, I would say she should cut ties in that relationship. It is written not to yoke yourself with unbelievers. Marrying someone outside of the faith can discourage you immensely and create massive problems with children down the road.

It is written bad compan corrupts good morals. Not to say he is a bad guy, not at all, but I gather that he is of the world. (Unless he too is converting.) I am simply saying that the Bible does not say good character balances out bad morals- so missionary marriages, (marriages with the hope of conversion later,) are not very successful.

The verse regarding the stoning of the adulterer/ess was from amongst the verses revealed (in the Quran). We read it, understood it and memorised it. Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alayhi Wa Sallam) stoned and we stoned after him. I fear that with the passage of time a person may say, ‘We do not find mention of stoning in the Book of Allah and thereby lead astray by leaving out an obligation revealed by Allah. Guy’s what’s happening here?

Do we not understand that we all believe in the same God and the same God that spoke the words of stoning in the Old Testament is the same God who spoke about it in the New Testament and Quran?

Christians believe in Jesus, and to them, Jesus is God, therefore, we all believe that God has delivered us this form of punishment for these acts of Crime.

None the less, the Quran advises us to adapt to time, and now-a-days we have systems and laws in place that deal with these crimes.

Those punishments were useful and applicable in that era. Just because we can not comprehend it does not mean that it is ‘wrong’, it’s just our mentality and way of life has changed.

And if you feel that it is wrong, then your heart is in the right place, and that’s why God says “let not compassion move you’ cause God knows best, not us.

Other countries might still adopt this form of punishment, so be it. They want to maintain Gods country and adhere to the laws stated in the Holy Books. What we have to question is whether people are oppressed because of these laws, and if so, why do they feel this way?

Remember, we all believe in the same God. We all believe that there is no God but God. We all believe in Moses, Mary and Jesus.

You are correct Islam does NOT have stoning to death as a punishment for Adultery.

So called Muslims have relied up Hadith which is not of divine origin nor cannot it be verified or relied upon as the Word of God. For this Muslims suffer in the World due to their ignorance. If they cast the Hadith to one side and used the Quran as a system for guidance we Muslims wouldn’t be the laughing stock of the Worlds.

Until Muslims and Hadithists accept this there will never be progress and turmoil will continue in “Muslim” lands until they accept only the Word of God (Quran) as a guidance for one’s life.

John 8:1But Jesus went to the Mount of Olives. 2At dawn he appeared again in the temple courts, where all the people gathered around him, and he sat down to teach them. 3The teachers of the law and the Pharisees brought in a woman caught in adultery. They made her stand before the group 4and said to Jesus, “Teacher, this woman was caught in the act of adultery. 5In the Law Moses commanded us to stone such women. Now what do you say?” 6They were using this question as a trap, in order to have a basis for accusing him.

But Jesus bent down and started to write on the ground with his finger. 7When they kept on questioning him, he straightened up and said to them, “If any one of you is without sin, let him be the first to throw a stone at her.” 8Again he stooped down and wrote on the ground.

9At this, those who heard began to go away one at a time, the older ones first, until only Jesus was left, with the woman still standing there. 10Jesus straightened up and asked her, “Woman, where are they? Has no one condemned you?”

    11“No one, sir,” she said.

“Then neither do I condemn you,” Jesus declared. “Go now and leave your life of sin.”

    Jesus win.
